Current work

Currently our focus is on three main areas:

  • Scottish Government's Eyecare Review implementation
  • Funding shortfalls in national and local services
  • Improving opportunities in education and employment

SNFWB will be liaising with local and national organisations to ensure that we communicate effectively with decision-makers in these areas.

Visual awareness training pack

We have also recently received funding from the Scottish Government to design and produce a pack for Visual Awareness training.

This is to help realise a recommendation from Community Care Services for People with a Sensory Impairment:

'Every social work and care facility should have staff that are able to meet the basic communication needs of a person with a sensory impairment by April 2006'

'a national training strategy which strikes a balance between generic and specialist needs should be devised that places the needs of users and carers at its heart and is based on good practice standards'

Although the timescale for this training package has slipped somewhat it is now expected that it will be available in the latter half of 2008.
